Today I am reviewing the Snugpak All Weather Shelter Tarp and my questions is this; Snugpak, what the heck has happened to your quality?

This is terrible!

  1. Luke have you adjusted the one tigress I think it’s called bullwarp tarp? It’s 10×13 I think.

  2. Thanks bro! I love the out doors. and it would make a great asset to the back pack. I’ll check the seams and stitches.

  3. The number one issue with this tarp: Made By SLAVES in china. The reason for all of the other issues with this tarp: Made By SLAVES in china. I won’t support a company who trades in slavery.

  4. I like Snugpak products in general, but this one is simply not worth buying at all …….

  5. Thanks for the review!!! Been pondering getting a couple of these, think I will pull the trigger and get them. Now that I know what to look for!! Thanks again!!

Oh, and I picked up the Cave 4 tent recently too. Snowing here in N Idaho, so I guess I’ll wait till spring to play with that.

Love your vids. Very informative and you seem to cover all the good AND bad with the products you review.

  6. Great review! I’ve taken this tarp with me on three A.T. section hikes. One of them was two days of rain and storm. The tarp held up wonderfully and didn’t leak anywhere. Since then, I have sworn by this product and referred many people to it. The stitching and seams on mine are holding up great. I stretch it out nice and tight with every use.
I hate hearing that there’s some manufacturers out there not doing there quality checks. All the best to any future purchases of this tarp. It seems to be a roll of the dice. I love mine.

  7. Have this Tarp since 2012 or 2013 and never had any issues with it. Used it in summer and also in winter. Maybe you hit a "monday-version"?

  8. If i were to use a tarp, i think i would go with a 12×15 plastic tarp .. cheap and down and dirty.

  9. I have had my snupak tarp for almost 10 years now. Only issue i have had is some of the snaps have broken.

  10. I remember years ago I ordered one of their tents, I still have it but haven’t used it much lately. I remember seeing this tarp for sale for 89.99 which I thought was terribly price gouging! There is no tarp worth 89 dollars I don’t care if it’s the number one tarp! I would never pay that much for a tarp. It’s insane. I enjoyed your video by the way. Thanks! 🙂

  11. I’ve had one for years, works great. When used in conjunction with my Hennessy Hammock I have a very large dry area in storms.

  12. Have used this tarp for over 2 years as a hammock tarp during hike/camp trips. Have not used in snow storms, but have had it in several thunderstorms, windy conditions. It has never failed me. Mostly tied out in diamond configuration. Have not treated it, still water proof. It isn’t that bulky if wrapped up right. Have a snake skin on it. Use it for 4 seasons. Don’t know if the quality is consistent with each tarp. For the price, I have been pleased with its overall function.

  13. I couldn’t even possibly consider paying$ $55+ for a tarp, ide rather mod a $20 camo tarp from harbor freight

  14. I’ve had mine 5 years now and other than some rust on the grommets it’s held up extremely well for me. I’m a huge Snugpak fan and have a TON of their gear, everything from tents, bags and pads, to hammock insulation, jackets and packs, and I’ve never had an issue with quality at all. Im actually going to start testing their Antarctica RE sleeping bag and Venture Pile shirt & pants once it’s finally cold enough again. I’ve also done a bunch of Snugpak gear reviews for my channel as well if anyone is interested. Great honest review though Luke. ~ Chesapeake

  15. I just got one of these gifted to me by a local shop owner after I mentioned I was looking for a good tarp. He had it in the shop just collecting dust. So now after watching this, I’m glad it was a gift.

  16. Hey Luke,
I also have problems with Snugpack. I have the Snugpak Bergen 70 + 30 and after two times on the road, the flap that holds the frame in place comes loose by the bad sewing.
Okay for the money I did not expect much from the backpack either, (I needed a backpack that would be big and not expensive) but this was more comfort-based than on finish. Pity.
Also have their underblancket, which pleases super good, nothing to criticize. But I think a second time before I again order something from snugpak.

  17. I would be leary of any product where the company cannot spell the word "lean-to" on their packaging. It’s clear in the video that it says "lean-too" shelter on the package at 5:49 Makes one wonder if it’s a knockoff.

  18. After this review I looked at my Snugpak tarp which is the same model reviewed. I’ve had it a couple of years but I have only used it as a ground cover on sand a couple of times as it is really used as my emergency hiking cover for my wife and I. When i checked it I noticed a couple of minor pin holes but it is largely OK. The stitching round the edges is ragged in places but firm. The snappers are all OK. The sealed seems are also OK. I bought it from Amazon in Hong Kong as I live in China and it is one of the few suppliers who will deliver here.

  19. It is 5/7/19 and I just sent back an Ionosphere to Amazon because of the poor quality. The bug netting zipper stitching looked like someone did not know what they were doing, the tie out straps were fraying on the end because they were poorly heat cut, and about 5 foot of the bathtub floor was not seam taped AT GROUND LEVEL. Other tent companies are getting good quality doing the made in China thing, but I imagine they have to pay more to get that quality. I don’t think Snugpak will last much longer without bringing the quality up.

  20. Not sure if you’ve ever tried one but an Orc Industries USGI tarp is pretty solid assuming you get a new one and not a low grade surplus one. Would love to see a review.

  21. I’ve had mine for about 4 years and its held up fine. I know Snugpak had some Q.C issues a while back, as they had several problems with the hammock Cocoon and other insulation. They did however pull the Cocoon from the market and did a complete redesign, fixing ALL the issues such as weak stitches, insufficient draft baffle, zippers getting caught, suspension loops ripping out etc. They also ( with my input I might add lol) changed the method/ directions for hanging the UQ. For the price though, I think Snugpak has some solid gear that’s pretty bombproof. As with most companies that make gear, there will be issues eventually. It’s how the company responds that makes the difference I think. It seems like Snugpak actually listens to their customers and fixes problems based on that. I know from the contact I’ve had with their R&D director, Stewart Anderson, that they pride themselves as being a family run business that is a semi-cottage manufacturer and are interested in all feedback so they can improve their performance. But anyway, here’s a link to the vid I did on the tarp if anyone is interested : https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4Fr2shlXBTI . For the price I think it’s definitely one of the best inexpensive options on the market and performs at or even above its price range. ~ Chesapeake

  22. Good review. I love snugpak I hooe these cons will resolve their selves. I have the new caccon for my hammock and other that a little zipper struggle which I have to even deal with that with my western mountaineering sleeping bags , I have no cons with the caccon. Well one ot is a total furnace LOL. With my sleeping bag and this caccon I think I could winter in Siberia with no trouble.

  23. I bought this same tarp from Amazon, but as "Warehouse" second for $32. I got it because 10×10 at about 1 Kg is fantastic. Agree that it is a three-season tarp, but it does take well to some gaff tape reenforcement (grommets and center-pole), and spray paint to break up the large OD. Mine did not have stretch opens or pinholes, nor delaminating seals.
If you don’t mind paying more and carrying heavier 4-season tarp, Aquaquest Defender is excellent. I have the 10×10 camodefender, but it’s big and heavy.
Agree that double-stitching is good, but this 200d material is not that strong so it might not matter, except for sealing.
Still looking for almost-as-good as this SnugPac tarp for $14.99 so I can order 10.

  24. Glad I ran across this review, as I was thinking about purchasing one. Guess it will be a DD Tarp now. As always, thanks for a honest review…ATB to You All.  Von

  25. Snugpak moved operations to china…a shame, i have the scorpion 3 and it is great, along with poncho and liner, very warm and dry..wish they would get there stuff together cause would like some more snugpak stuff

  26. Not a comment on the tarp itself, I’m already turned off by what you’ve shown. What I would like to know is what that Tarp pitch is called and how does one go about setting it up. I have an 8 page document that goes in my tarp stuff sack and I’ve never seen that one….I really like it.

  27. Good review on quality, site selection needs attention, water running off tarp would run down the hill into sheltered area

  28. Not had any quality issues with mine. But it’s annoying that you have to use a Ridgeline for any ‘A’ shape setups, as there are no loops in the centre of the edges. It’s a poor omission imho. You have to stich some webbing loops there yourself, if you want that utility. In hindsight, I should have got something like a DD instead.

  29. Well, you’re definitely not a “yes man” (no sexist remark intended); therefore, your review was very informative. Thank you.

  30. The one bad thing about this setup, is it isn’t windproof… You’re better off with a DD Hammocks Tarp!

  31. It sounds like others have had the same experiences with this product and with other Snugpak gear. Make sure to sound off with the good and the bad!

  32. Hello Luke thanks for the great review as usual I realize this is a year old but still a great review also I have a question for you do you know anything about the River Country Trekker tents? If you do let me know what you think about them and their products. Stay safe stay well and as always God bless
